SUBJECT: Investment Proposal: Scholly

AMDP Investment Standards:

Triple Bottom Line: The notion that companies should not only focus on profitability, but also social and environmental responsibilities. There are three P's that Triple Bottom Line is broken up into:

Profit - ensuring that shareholders are financially benefitting

People - ensuring that the community, employees, and society is benefitting

Planet - ensuring that environment and our planet benefits

Corporate Social Responsibility: The notion that companies have a responsibility to do good to their employees, customers, and the world as a whole. They should not focus on profits because that is not their only task.

Social Enterprise: This is a business that focuses on a specific problem in society, and uses their platform as well as profits to provide resources to that problem.

Carbon Footprint: The emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that are harmful to our environment and atmosphere. Everything has a carbon footprint and companies can reduce theirs in different ways.

Overview of Scholly

Scholly's mission is to make college affordable for everyone. The founder, Christopher Gray, grew up in poverty with no internet access at home. Even though he had no money and little support, he was able to use the free library to get internet access, find scholarships, and apply for as many as he possibly could. His dedication paid off when he was awarded over $1.3 million in scholarships, even receiving one from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He saw how time consuming and difficult this process was, and decided to make it easier for all students. Since then, Scholly has helped students receive over $70 million in funds for college.

Recommendation

Scholly's mission statement and actions taken by the company directly support AMDP's investment standards and values. They directly support people and society with their goals yet also generate revenue and expand their business. Educating the people is also a way to increase awareness of the global carbon emission issue, so I believe Scholly is fully in line with our own standards. I recommend that we invest in Scholly.
