Who You Are Matters
Where I come from:
I am from San Jose, California. It's called the, "Capital of Silicon Valley" and shows from all the tech companies that are headquartered there.
Where I am going and how I will get there:
I will be going into investment banking after my graduation. I already have the offer and finished an internship so as long as I pass the rest of my classes this semester, everything will work out.
How I am like my parents:
My parents instilled a hard work ethic in me. They taught me the usefulness of hard work and determination by struggling through their life to give me a better one.
How I am unlike my parents:
My father never went to college and my mother only went later in life, after kids and her first career. I am unlike them in that I am the first in my family to go to college right out of high school.
Expectations:
I can confidently say I am operating under my own expectations. I set high expectations for myself and quite honestly stress myself out more than necessary. It is often helpful to take a step back and appreciate all the hard work I have put in, so I can refocus myself.
Role Model:
Someone who I noticed lives life with great passion and that I look up to is Elon Musk. He may be immature, have too much money, or not think some of his tweets through, but if you listen to him speak on things that he is passionate about, you can hear the passion and genius mind behind some of the world's biggest companies. He is someone who is actually making moves to alter the future for the better, and his cars are pretty fun to drive too.
Wild Animal:
An animal I feel a special connection to would be a hawk. Ever since I was a young child, my father would bring my little brother and me to hike this specific trail. At the top, there were always a couple hawks circling above us, and I'd spend the day just staring up at them. Living above the clouds seems like a pretty cool way to live life.
Nature Kingdoms:
A significant encounter with a plant would have to be a large rose bush when I was 13. I was playing with my little brother and he ran past a large rose bush we used to have in our back yard. A long stem caught on his shirt, and as he ran by it whipped back and hit me right underneath my eye. Just a centimeter upwards and I would've been dealing with a rose thorn in the eye. Now if I am ever buying flowers for an occasion, I tend to steer clear of roses.
Hi Dante!
ReplyDeleteIt is so cool that you are from San Jose. Since I am from the East Coast, that is also on my list to check out before I graduate. I wonder if it's colder over there compared to LA.
Congratz on your job offer and going into IB! That is a job/role that many people dream of going into! I wish you the best of luck with that; it sounds super exciting.
It's so interesting that your role model is Elon Musk because out of the blog posts I read so far, I think maybe 2-3 other people also said Elon Musk haha. You should all chat about Elon sometime!
Sorry about your rose situation; I rode into a thorn bush on my bike when I was 8. It really hurt lol. But yeah, roses are pretty for sure, but they can be super painful too!

Dante,
ReplyDeleteYOU DROVE A TESLA???? I'm so jealous. Elon Musk used to be a role model of mine, but his tweets annoyed me too much. Now I view Elon as an enemy. Congrats on having a job lined up. It's crazy to think that I'm going to school with people who are literally adults. I'm scared because I don't want to leave the stability of a school environment in three years, are you afraid to too?
I have a debate to settle. Do you truly believe that you're from norcal? I looked at San Jose on a map and it was a lot more south than I imagined. I used to view you as one of us (norcal people) but now I don't think you are. I'd love your input.

Hey Dante,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your blog post! I'm also from the Bay Area and I would always go hiking with my family at Alum Rock, where there were always hawks circling above. I remember when I was younger, I would be super tired after hiking all morning and I would wish that I could just fly down the trail instead of having to walk back down.
In reference to Ellie's comment above, San Jose is definitely part of Northern California. Where else would it be, the central coast? Maybe I'm just biased.

Hey Dante,
ReplyDeleteI can relate on the hard work ethic instilled by parents. Sometimes I wonder how lazy I would really have been if I didn't have them there to push me along. Glad it worked out for you, an investment banking offer is a fantastic way to start your career post graduation. I'm always torn with Elon Musk, on the one hand I do think he has a great vision for the future, but on the other hand I think he squanders some of his potential by playing around a little too much. Either way, I'd definitely rather him be in control of all that capital than most of the other billionaires out there.

Dante -- where are your Sun, Moon, and Rising Signs? BTW, I love hawks, too. I live in a place where Hawks circle overhead during certain times of the year. Sometimes Cooper's Hawks perch and nest in the trees around my yard.
